From Design Studio to Pocketwear
Secrid’s story began in the Netherlands in the 1990s, when founders René van Geer and Marianne van Sasse van Ysselt were running their own design agency. As cash gradually gave way to cards, they noticed that the contents of our pockets were changing too.
In 1995, they created their first minimalist card holder, the Bodycard. More than a decade later, that idea evolved into something that would become synonymous with the brand: the Cardprotector.
Launched in 2009, the Cardprotector introduced a completely different approach to the traditional wallet. Its slim aluminium design protects cards while a patented mechanism allows them to slide out with one simple motion. The original design went on to win a Red Dot Design Award in 2010.
Designed Around What You Actually Carry
Secrid’s philosophy is simple: carry less, but make what you carry work harder.
At the heart of every Secrid wallet is its Cardprotector – a compact aluminium holder designed to protect cards from bending, breaking and unwanted RFID communication. Depending on the model, additional space can be added for cash, business cards and other everyday essentials.
The result is a wallet that feels more like a piece of product design than a traditional accessory. Minimal in size, considered in function and made for everyday use.
Made to Last
For Secrid, good design isn't only about how something looks. The brand places a strong emphasis on longevity, carefully selecting materials and components and designing its wallets to be used for years rather than replaced every season. Its products are made in Europe, with the Cardprotector produced in the Netherlands.
Secrid also became a certified B Corp in 2022, reflecting its wider focus on social and environmental responsibility. The company continues to work with European suppliers and partners, with repairability and responsible production forming part of its approach to product design.
